Facebook changing its name to Meta, Microsoft joining the search for a metaverse, as well as a bunch of other companies, the race is officially on. But why we should care and what’s a metaverse in the first place?
What is a metaverse?
A Metaverse is a digital space, where people can interact and transact with each other. In other words, it’s a digital world with built-in economy that can be inhabited by people through their digital representations (avatars).
That’s it.
Common misconceptions about a metaverse
People often mistake a metaverse for some kind of an online game, either:
- World of Warcraft or RuneScape or Second Life, or
- a VR chat with your friends
